So much has happened this year, but two events in particular, need mentioning. Firstly, we were proud to join forces with the town of Blois in France, to create the first twinning of societies.

A delegation from Blois, including Deputy Major, Director of Social Services, and members of the visually impaired community spent 3 days in May, interacting over common problems, it proved to be very stimulating, with many good ideas being exchanged, and new friends made. Our return visit to Blois next summer is eagerly awaited.

Secondly, the Employment Training Scheme is now fully operational, and already trainees have completed and passed their course. It is a vital service we provide, for visually impaired people have many assets to offer the local working community. Congratulations to everyone who took part, and in particular to hard endeavours of staff and trainers.

Penultimately, my thanks to all executive Committee members for the guidance and help. To Gloria Wright and all her staff and voluntary helpers. Your commitment, drive and enthusiasm makes the centre and the society the success it is.

I look forward to another challenging, exciting 12 months and to working with you for this unique society.

Finally - funding, the society has to continue a vigorous fund raising momentum, to survive. Revenue funding is vital, so all Blue Chip Companies, local groups and individuals - please support us to maintain, develop and expand our 'centre of excellence'.
