Welcome to the Brighton Society for the Blind web site - we would like your help.
We are currently trying to expand our books on tape library. While we have books in various formats for people with partial sight (for more information see the Library section) the books on tape are by far the most useful and popular. We currently have over seven hundred tapes, which is a lot if it was a private collection, but is tiny compared to even a local mainstream library, and a huge amount of the tapes are always on loan.
We are also trying to increase the variety of tapes available, most of the books on tape we have are mystery or thriller based, with some classics and other genres. While we are very happy to receive more mysteries and thrillers, we would be overjoyed to gain more classics and increase the number of autobiographies, fantasy, science fiction and non-fiction tapes available.
Please help - if you have any books on tape that you no longer want or need, can you please send them to us, we would be very grateful. As we have said above, any type of tape is good. If it is in a foreign language, that is fine as well, we have lots of members and some will be happy to find we have tapes in what can be their first, second or third language. They also provide good practise for brushing up language skills.

Sending the tapes:
In Britain: Items for the partially sighted can be sent to us free of charge if you clearly mark the envelope or package "Articles for the Blind" when sending it to us, and it is openable for checking by the Post Office. Many padded envelopes now come with little tags to seal them rather than using the stick flap for when sending through customs, these are perfect as the contents can be checked easily without any chance of damaging the item.
Outside of Britain: If you are sending from outside Britain please check with your local postal service to find out whether they too have discounts for these items. Please forward any information you find out on to us and we will add it to these pages.
Thank you for any help you can give
