Sarah suffered a devastating set of injuries in a car crash in South Africa, turning her life upside down in one fell swoop. Sarah awoke to find an arm broken, a leg fractured, and although she was unaware of it at the time, one of her vertebrae had been crushed....

Repairs were implemented in South Africa, extensive surgery to try and rectify the massive damage. It was two months before Sarah was well enough to be brought home, to face the long long recovery process. In Sarah's case, there was an added complication in that she had lain flat for many months by this point, and her body had adjusted to it, sitting up even made her feel nauseous and dizzy, the prospect of actually standing again was not only a physical challenge, it had become a mental challenge as well.

Anyone who has had physiotherapy will tell you is it not easy, and generally not pleasant, when the scale of the problem to deal with is on the scale of the people illustrated in this article, and Sarah was no exception to this, finding it hard torturous work, but persevered.

Now Sarah can walk again, although there is a long way to go, she uses a wheelchair in public, where distances are involved, and crutches bravely when the distances are manageable - determined to get back what was taken from her by a faulty wheel housing on the Land Rover they were travelling in.

Sarah uses the services at William Moon Lodge, and as soon as an interview can be arranged, we will put her thoughts here for you to read.
