Lantern produces their own audio-cassette for members who wish to
receive news about their Society and fellow members. Recorded 4 to 5 times a year, it is compiled by a small team of volunteers who collect suitable material and organise the production. There is a small studio in the Centre where most of the action takes place, as well as a cassette copying area. Based on a News Letter format, one side of the tape is mostly informative, with an up-date on the Centre's activities from Director, Gloria Wright. A "What's on in and around Brighton & Hove" a Book Spot which promotes the Centre's Audio-Cassette and Large Print Library, and a "Bits and Pieces" feature, which covers snippets of information relating to services and leglislation connected with Visual Impairment. The other side consists of contributions by members and volunteers who usually write and read their own material. If reading as a problem, one of the team interviews the contributor. The aim is to provide a friendly, chatty recording which helps to keep members informed and in touch. Our Recording Studio is small - and the opportunity for photography equally small, but here are two pictures, one of Jean, being recorded, and one of John, doing the recording, both hard working volunteers.
