Chairman's Report

I mentioned in last year’s report, of the breathtaking pace the society and Centre continues to grow, and this year has proved to be no exception.

The hydrotherapy pool became operational in September and the official opening will take place after the AGM. It has already stimulated many enquires from disabled organisations, societies, schools and the public to make use of our superb facility. As it’s the only pool of its kind in Brighton & Hove it will become a major asset for us. Our thanks to all those trusts and donors who made it possible.

Our twinning with the town of Blois in France was strengthened by our visit in April. Over four days we were able to interact, experience and re-establish friendships. Our hosts were most welcoming and the wonderful trip was enjoyed by all.

Our services, the reason for the society, has also continued to grow and develop. New training contracts have been won, with more students using the facilities to learn and develop new skills for today’s modern working life. The services for the elder members continues to expand and develop. A care manager will be appointed in the very near future to extend our services. The early learning unit, an exciting new development is growing from strength to strength, giving huge enjoyment to the very young and disabled.

The Centre is nearing completion, the sensory garden has been designed and built, the corridors, and other facilities are finished. I expect by next year, I will be able to say we’ve finished - I hope so!!

Finally, the driving force, strong management and excellent team work generated by Gloria Wright and her staff and aided by our team of volunteers has enabled the society and the Centre to continue its extraordinary growth, and provide the facilities and services richly deserved and required by visually impaired people. Your hard endeavours are very much appreciated - Thank you.

As always, our funding is self generating, to all those who have contributed either financially or in kind, please continue to support us, and those who have yet to - please start today. The society needs your help, we want to continue, to develop and expand our unique society and maintain our ‘Centre of Excellence.’
