In Grade 2, these contractions can be used medially but never at the beginning of a word. They may also be used next to one another, eg:

As well as these extra contractions, a number of word signs are used, certain words being denoted by their initial letter only. They are:

In the suffixes -ed and -er the letter E is omitted except in proper names. The letter U is omitted in words such as "colour", "honour", "neighbour" etc.
